A new (stepping) stone for Bundamba as the nbn™ network arrives!
As the nbn™ network starts to roll into Bundamba, we look at the town best know for its rich history and community spirit.
Towns and cities all across Australia are beginning to connect to the nbn™ network, so we’re celebrating the historic moments, landmarks or features that put each area on the map.
Nestled between the Bremer River and Cunningham Highway, the charming little town of Bundamba is home to 5,500 people and has a rich history of agriculture that one may not expect!
The Bundamba Creek, located north of the town, was oncea source for stone used in the creation of hand axes.
In fact, according to the Ipswich Libraries, the original name of the town was derived from local Aboriginal words “bundan” and “ba”, meaning 'stone axe' and 'place of'.
As the town moved through the 1800s, the land became filled with cotton fields and soon enough cotton became the common source of income for many of the locals. However this quickly passed once coal was discovered and Bundamba became home to two coal mines.
The town today has an extremely strong, tight-knit community, having battled through and recovered from many floods.
In years as recent as 2011, floods saw the community come together with gusto to rebuild and support those who had lost or seen damage happen to their homes and businesses.
However the community spirit can be felt all year round, particularly through the town’s love of weekend football matches.
A town tradition, a good old sausage sizzle draws crowds of young and old together for a bit of competitive fun!
If the kids aren’t down at the local oval, it’s likely you’ll catch them out and about on the weekends at the local skate park or roller skating rink.
Bundamba, a large suburb of the Ipswich area means the locals are only a hop skip and a jump away for the action happening at the Ipswich centre.
Whether it’s a day shopping, a delicious meal, a wander through the galleries or even a hot air balloon ride, there’s never a lack of exicting activities.
While the area of Bundamba has proven to be a town full of community pride and great spirit, the possibilities are going to become endless now the nbn™ network has arrived in town.
