Things that you should know
- Your monthly data allowance includes both your upload and download activities combined but only for video streaming1 and VPN traffic and only between 4pm and 12am midnight.
- If your monthly data allowance for video streaming1 and VPN traffic between 4pm – 12am midnight is exhausted, maximum wholesale download speeds will be shaped to 512kbps and maximum wholesale upload speeds will be shaped to 256kbps for video streaming1 and VPN traffic between 4pm and 12am midnight for the remainder of the calendar month.
- To proactively protect and ensure fair access to the nbn™ broadband access network for all users, nbn may from time to time, at its discretion, shape the following uncapped data activities to maximum wholesale upload and download speeds of 256kbps:
- uploads and downloads via peer to peer;
- uploads and downloads to cloud storage platforms;
- PC and smartphone operating system updates;
- software/application updates;
- gaming software updates;
- any other uncapped data activity related to applications which nbn cannot identify.
Other uncapped data activity that nbn considers may cause adverse network impacts may also be added to the above list to be shaped, including streaming video1 and VPN outside of 4pm and 12am midnight. Other exclusions and fair use conditions may apply. 2
- Embedded streaming video content on certain social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr and LinkedIn, is considered uncapped data. Embedded streaming video content on all other websites and platforms only counts toward your monthly data allowance between 4pm and 12am midnight.
- All video calling data is uncapped all the time. Examples of common video calling applications include: Skype, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, FaceTime, Google Duo, Snapchat, Instagram Live, Viber, Zoom, Google Hangouts, Line, Tango, MyVMR and GoToMeeting.
- All Wi-Fi calling data is uncapped.
- Your usage meter resets on the first calendar day of the month.
- Plan changes via your internet service provider will take effect on the first day of the next month.
Activities that count towards your monthly data allowance to keep in mind:
- All online activity accessed via a Virtual Private Network between 4pm and 12am midnight.
- Streaming or downloading video content, including from sites like YouTube and Netflix (but excluding embedded video content on certain social media platforms) between 4pm and 12am midnight.
